The Forest Peacock Lamp
Tholu Bommalata is a traditional shadow puppetry art form of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Historically the artisans practicing these art would create tableaus of Ramayana and Mahabharata and travel from village to village enacting them. This is now a dying performance art with the advent of modern entertainment. Working with the artisans, we attempt to revive this pictorial art by taking their representations of flora and fauna, symbology and iconography to contemporary lighting objects.
